Philosophy

I strive to keep nature in mind while gardening. I feel that much can learnt from the observation of natural ecosystems, and that we can save ourselves much time and unnecessary labour by maintaining gardens in partnership with, rather than against, the forces of nature.

Services offered

Though my favourite type of gardens are those geared towards food production, I design and maintain an enormous variety of landscapes, and am comfortable working in almost any type of garden. The following is a partial list of the services I offer: Planning, planting, pruning, propagation, mulching, weeding, watering, soil amendment, compost production, wit, and charm. Please don't hesitate to contact me with special requests not mentioned above.

Though I use a bicycle to transport myself and most of my tools, I am able to arrange both the delivery of heavy goods (mulch, soils, compost, etc...), and the pick-up and disposal of large amounts of debris.

I offer a consultation service, tailored to your individual needs. This can involve anything from taking an inventory of plants growing on a property, to describing what, when, and how to prune, to helping answer vegetable and herb growing questions. I am also available for trips to local nurseries, to help with the selection of plant materials and soil amendments.

I lead unique workshops and seminars on soil fertility, vegetable gardening, mulch, and compost production. I take great pride in my own vegetable gardens, and often use them as a teaching venue. I am always open to new ideas and collaborations - Please don't hesitate to contact me with any proposals.

Services not offered

Lawn care, hedging, pruning above ten feet, and the use of any synthetic chemicals (yes, this includes Miracle Grow).

I charge $30 per hour for labour, and $35 per hour for consultations, with a minimum charge of one hour. Contact me for workshop/seminar pricing.
